What Is Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)?
Testosterone is a primary sex hormone, produced mainly in men, but also in women. It’s key to physical development, assisting in muscle growth, bone density, and sex drive.
Men’s testosterone levels are highest in their late teens and early twenties, before they gradually start reducing.
If your levels drop below where they should be, it’s known as testosterone deficiency (or low T) – this can affect almost every part of how you feel and function.
Testosterone replacement therapy is a regulated medical treatment designed to reverse this drop-off by restoring men’s hormone levels under the care of a qualified prescriber.
To do this, Blackpool Express Chemist offers regulated, tailored TRT treatments to counter imbalances and promote men’s health, wellbeing and confidence.
Book a TRT consultation as early as todayWhat Are The Signs And Symptoms Of Low Testosterone?
Low testosterone can creep up on you, and the symptoms are often put down to ‘just getting older’ or being run down. If you're noticing a few of the following, it might be worth getting checked out:
Mental changes
- Fatigue
- Low mood
- Poor motivation
- Brain fog/loss of concentration
- Mood swings
Physical changes
- Feeling tired/lacking energy
- Loss of muscle mass and strength
- Weight gain or increased body fat
- Losing body hair/hair growth slowing
- Swelling or tenderness in breast tissue
- Weaker bones
Sexual changes
- Low sex drive
- Trouble getting or keeping erections
- Lower sperm count
- No or fewer morning erections
Because these symptoms overlap with other conditions, such as stress and thyroid issues, the only way to know for sure is with a blood test.
How Our TRT Service Works & How Much It Costs
We keep our pricing and processes straightforward, so you know exactly what you're paying for before you commit to anything.
Initial Consultation & Blood Test
Face-to-face chat about your symptoms, medical history, and next steps. This includes your first blood test.
Confirm Your Testosterone Levels
If your first results indicate low testosterone, we’ll organise a second one to confirm your results.
Clinical Assessment & Treatment
Once a deficiency is confirmed and TRT is appropriate, your prescriber will discuss treatment options with you and agree on the best course of action.
Follow-Up & Monitoring
After six weeks, we’ll invite you to return for another blood test to see how you’re responding to the treatment and if any adjustments are necessary.
Not Sure Yet? Start With A Low Testosterone Blood Test
If you’re exploring whether low testosterone is the reason you’ve not been feeling yourself, you don’t need to commit to a full consultation right away.
Book a standalone testosterone blood test with Blackpool Express Chemist, and we’ll explain your results in plain English so you can decide whether TRT is worth pursuing.
What Are The Benefits Of Testosterone Replacement Therapy?
When patients start TRT, they often report improvements in the following areas…
Everyone responds differently to TRT, and results vary from person to person, which is exactly why ongoing monitoring is such a key part of how we work.
Meet Our TRT Expert – Aamar Ali
Unlike anonymous online clinics, every TRT patient at Blackpool Express Chemist is looked after by a trained professional.
Working from our Common Edge pharmacy, Aamar Ali is a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber with over 15 years’ experience and a passion for men’s health, wellness and testosterone replacement therapy.
Aamar has a keen interest in men's health and wellbeing through their 30s, 40s and beyond — from energy and mood to sexual health and confidence, issues that are often difficult to talk about but have a real impact on daily life.
Aamar looks beyond your blood results to provide a personal approach, taking the time to understand your symptoms, medical history and lifestyle before deciding on the right path forward.
His interests include testosterone deficiency and TRT, men's mental wellbeing, sexual health, and weight management. Because low testosterone symptoms can have many causes, TRT isn't always the right answer — and if it isn't for you, Aamar will be just as open about that.
For Aamar, TRT isn't about chasing a number on a blood test. It's about getting to know the person behind the results – helping men better understand their health, feel heard and take positive control of their long-term wellbeing.
Your Testosterone Replacement Treatment Options
Blackpool Express Chemist provides personalised care to all of our patients, so you can be confident you’re getting a service that works for you. And our testosterone replacement therapy is no different; that’s why we adjust treatments based on your lifestyle, preferences and clinical history.
This also means your prescriber may recommend different options – these are:
Before starting treatments, our expert will take you through each option to find the one that works best for you. There’s no right or wrong solution, and this can be adjusted as your treatment progresses.
Testosterone Replacement Therapy: Monitoring And Safety
We start each TRT patient on the lowest effective dose, adjusting only when monitoring shows it’s necessary. This helps us minimise side effects while giving your treatment the best chance to work.
Before you start any medication, it’s natural to have concerns about side effects, like hair loss or mood changes – these are things we actively monitor for, not reasons to avoid treatment altogether.
Regular blood testing also tracks markers like blood thickness and prostate health, so any changes can be identified and your dose adjusted accordingly. This ongoing monitoring is built into every stage of your treatment – it’s not an optional extra.
Who Is TRT Suitable For?
Blackpool Express Chemist’s testosterone replacement therapy service is all about restoring quality of life and confidence for men with a genuine clinical need. It’s not a performance or lifestyle shortcut.
Our TRT may be suitable if you…
- Are an adult man with symptoms of low testosterone (as confirmed by two separate blood tests).
- Want a private, faster alternative to NHS waiting times.
- Value ongoing, pharmacist-led monitoring, rather than a one-off prescription.
We will only prescribe TRT when a full investigation confirms there’s a real clinical need to reverse the symptoms of low testosterone – it’s never based on a single result or a request for treatment.
Blackpool Express Chemist prides itself on being open and honest, and would never give a patient a treatment they don’t need.
Switching From Another TRT Provider
If you’re already on TRT with another clinic and you want to switch, e.g. for more personalised care, we can help make that transition smooth.
If you’re currently on a treatment form that’s difficult to access or manage, we can advise on moving you onto a more suitable equivalent, so your care continues without unnecessary disruption.

FAQs About Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)
Although symptoms can indicate that you have low testosterone, the only real way for us to know and form a proper diagnosis is through providing a blood sample.
Different factors can affect your testosterone levels. So, to confirm and corroborate the results, we always do two blood tests to ensure an accurate clinical diagnosis.
For most men, TRT is a long-term treatment – this is because testosterone levels don’t typically recover on their own. Your prescriber will discuss what this means for you specifically during your assessment and follow-up consultations.
There’s no right or wrong option, and neither is universally better. The choice really depends on your lifestyle and how your body responds. Some patients will start on gels and move on to injections when these are deemed more suitable.
As part of your consultation, our TRT expert will help you choose and, if you want to change treatments, we can organise that for you.
TRT is a well-established, regulated treatment, but it isn't right for everyone, and that's exactly why we don't skip the assessment stage.
Before starting treatment, we look closely at things like prostate health, cardiovascular risk factors, and fertility considerations, so we can be confident treatment is appropriate and safe for you specifically.
Once you start, ongoing monitoring, including regular reviews and repeat blood tests, stays part of your care throughout. This helps us make sure your treatment is working as it should.
We'll always talk you through the full picture, benefits and considerations, before any treatment begins, so you can make a confident decision.
If either rises, we will discuss what this means and adjust your plan accordingly – this is why we monitor these markers closely through regular blood tests.
Yes – all of our consultations are confidential, and we never share your information without your explicit consent. We can keep your GP updated on your TRT treatment, but we’ll never do this without your say-so.
No, you don't need a GP referral to start TRT with us. You can book a consultation directly with Blackpool Express Chemist, so there’s no need to wait for a GP appointment or have to explain why you want to be tested.
In some cases, GPs do refer patients to us for private treatments, and we can accept GP referrals. However, Blackpool Express Chemist is a private service, and we don’t require a referral.
If you think you have low testosterone, we recommend getting a blood test to confirm it. Symptoms like fatigue, low mood, and reduced libido can point towards low testosterone, but they can also be caused by other things, so the most reliable way of knowing is with a blood test.
You’ll have a blood test at your initial consultation and then another before initiation. We’ll also conduct one at your 6-week follow-up, and then at regular intervals once your dose is suitable.
Ongoing monitoring is part of your treatment, and we do it to see how your body is reacting, making adjustments if needed.
This varies from person to person – some patients notice improvements in energy and mood within a few weeks, while other benefits build up more gradually over a few months.
TRT is a well-established, regulated treatment. Before starting, we carry out a full assessment to check if it's appropriate for you, and once treatment begins, we keep monitoring your levels with regular reviews and repeat blood tests.
Fertility is one of the things we consider carefully during your assessment, as it can be affected by testosterone treatment. We'll talk this through with you before starting anything, so you can make an informed decision.
In some cases, yes, but NHS testing and treatment pathways often involve longer waiting times and a more limited assessment. Going private gives you faster access, a fuller picture from your blood work, and ongoing pharmacist-led support.
If your results come back within a normal range, we'll talk you through what else might explain your symptoms and point you in the right direction, whether that's a different type of test or a chat with your GP.
